Andreas Karampelas was born in Athens in 1945. He attended painting classes in the workshop of Panos Sarafianos in 1964-1966. Then at the Athens School of Fine Arts until 1968. He left the School to freely pursue his studies and work on visual applications. During the same period, he studied Ancient Greek vases and sculpture in the Archaeological Museums of Athens and Heraklion, Crete.

He has held 20 solo exhibitions (Athens, Piraeus, Trikala, Livadia, Syros, Karditsa, Nicosia, Stockholm, Helsinki, Washington, etc.).

He has also taken part in many important group exhibitions. His works are in many galleries and private collections in Greece and abroad.

Lithography is a printing technique which was invented around 1798 by A. Alois Senefelder, based on the fact that water and fats are never mixed. The theme or representation is drawn with greasy chalk on a stone (porous limestone) or tin plate and then dried. When water runs on the designed surfaces, the greasy ink “catches” only in the places that are engraved and not in the wet stone.
