Kostas Paniaras

Kostas Paniaras was born in 1934 in Kiato, Corinthia. After his first painting lessons with Theodoros Lekos (Errico), he studied at the ASKT in Athens with Yiannis Moralis, while at the same time attending lessons with Eleni Zongolopoulou.

In 1956 he presented his first solo exhibition in Athens (Pane gallery) and left for Paris, where he studied in the workshops of André Lhote (painting), Gino Severini (mosaic and fresco) and the Ecole des Beaux Arts (lithography). He stayed in Paris until 1976, with intermediate stays in the USA, Persia and the Far East.

He presented his works – paintings, sculptures, constructions and installations in many individual and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. From 1961 to 1983 he collaborated with the Alexander Iolas Gallery in New York. Retrospective presentations of his work have been organized at the Pieridis Art Gallery in 1984 and at the Benaki Museum in 2007, entitled “Landscapes and Utopias”. He died in Athens in 2014.
