He was born on May 31, 1940 in Ermoupoli, Cyclades where he lived until 1957. Then he moved to Athens where he studied painting, scenography and costume design at the Doxiadis School. He was under the supervision of artists such as Yannis Tsarouchis, Spyros Vassiliou, Thanasis Apartis and others. Initially he worked as a stage designer in various theaters in Athens. In 1971, on the occasion of creating a portrait of the Queen of Iran Farah Pahlavi, he traveled to the Asian country. He settled there and lived until 1978. He launched his exhibition activity in 1963 and since then presented various of his works in group and individual exhibitions in Greece and abroad.

During the first stages of his artistic career, Makroulakis dealt with landscape painting. More specifically with the realistic depiction of the Greek landscape. Later, he moved towards still life and the depiction of interiors while introducing elements of the Persian school of painting, clearly influenced by his long stay in Tehran.

• Screen printing is the exact reproduction of limited copies of an original work.
• For reproduction, a silk grid is used stretched on a crate, hence the term Silkscreen, and as many crates as the colors of the work are used.
• The papers used for reproduction are cotton handmade 280-300gr type Fabriano.
• After the reproduction, the crates are destroyed by the painter to ensure the collectibility of the work.
• The Silkscreens are signed and numbered in pencil by the painter (numbering on the left and signature on the right) and are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
