Dimitris Mytaras (Chalkida, June 18, 1934 – Athens, February 16, 2017) was a contemporary Greek painter with international renown and professor at the School of Fine Arts (ASKT).

He studied painting at the School of Fine Arts (1953-1958) with professors Giannis Moralis and Spyros Papaloukas . He continued his studies in stage design at the “École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs” as well as interior design at the “Métiers d’Art” in Paris (1960-1964).

In 1975 he was elected professor of ASKT. His works have been exhibited in Athens, in solo exhibitions at the galleries “Zygos”, “Astor”, “Merlin” and at the Art Gallery (Thessaloniki). As well as in Bologna, Florence, Rome, Genoa. In March 2008 he was elected a full member of the Academy of Athens .

The painting of Dimitris Mytaras, anthropocentric mainly, is characterized by the intense design and the clear and strong colors. Starting with photographic realism, he then accepted the influence of abstraction, to end up with an expressionist expression. Much of his work is characterized by a strong mood of social criticism.

• Lithography is a printing technique which was invented around 1798 by A. Alois Senefelder, based on the fact that water and fats are never mixed.
• The theme or representation is drawn with greasy chalk on a stone (porous limestone) or tin plate and then dried. When water runs on the designed surfaces, the greasy ink “catches” only in the places that are engraved and not in the wet stone.
