Marios Prasinos is a Greek painter. He was born in Istanbul in 1916. However, he grew up and studied in Paris, where he found himself with his family after the events of 1922. In 1932 he enrolled in the Ecole des Langues Orientales and began his first painting lessons with Clement Servo. Two years later he began his studies at the Faculte des Lettres in Paris. Contacts with theater people, drawings and covers for publications. His constant interest in overcoming the boundaries between knowledge and insight, natural and metaphysical worlds, the treatment of painting as writing, are the elements that define the basic directions of his work. They shape her position and specify the questions she will be faced with. From his earlier works, portraits and self-portraits, already in a surreal mood, to the -introverted-moods-treatments of the natural landscape.

His first solo exhibition will take place in 1938 at the Pierre Vorms Gallery. In the same year he married Yolande Borelly. During the war he began working with NRF (Gallimard) publications. He will meet Albert Camus and Jean-Paul Sartre, and will illustrate the latter’s “Le Mur” with colored engravings. In collaboration with Raymond Queneau, in 1946, he published “L’instant fatal”, decorated with his own engravings. The following year he made the costumes for Paul Claudel’s play “Tobie et Sara”, uploaded by Jean Vilar at the Avignon Film Festival. He will collaborate with Vilar again in 1954 for the sets and costumes of “Macbeth”. In 1951 he made the first tapestries and bought the house in Engalier, where he was to live until his death. He has been a French citizen since 1949.
1953 is the year that will illustrate with woodcuts and copperplates Edgar Allan Poe ‘s poem, “The Raven”. In 1955 he will make the first, of the many that will follow in the same space, his solo exhibition at the Galerie de France . When he travels to Greece in the late 50’s, he has already started to study the landscape systematically.
In the 60’s and 70’s he held exhibitions inside and outside France, he continued his involvement with publications and the world of theater. He is also named Knight of the Arts and Letters and Knight of the Legion of Honor. In 1980 he exhibited at the Grand Palais the series “Paysages Turcs” and “Sindones”. In the following years, retrospective exhibitions of his work were organized in France and Greece, while, one year after his death, in 1986, the installation of eleven large paintings in the church of Notre Dame de Pitie was completed .
